Omar Abdullah Accuses Modi Government of Financial Mismanagement in Kashmir

Srinagar: Omar Abdullah, Vice President of the National Conference, has openly criticized the Indian government under Prime Minister Narendra Modi for financial mismanagement in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK). He claims this mismanagement is burdening the region with substantial debt, potentially compromising the financial stability of future elected governments.

According to Kashmir Media Service, Abdullah expressed his concerns through a post on X, highlighting the dire financial situation as evidenced by the territory’s escalating total liabilities, which reached Rs 1,12,797 crore in the fiscal year 2022-23. He lamented the significant increase in debt over the last decade, which has soared from Rs 29,972 crore in 2010-11, reflecting a troubling trend that he believes will lead to severe economic repercussions for the region.

Abdullah accused the central government of misleading the public with promises of a ‘new Kashmir’, while actually entangling the future local government in a web of debt and economic hardship. This situation, he argued, would leave the upcoming elected authorities with crippling interest payments and a looming financial crisis.
