Muzaffarabad: Kashmiris living around the world have rejected the demand by the outlawed Joint Action Committee to abolish the twelve refugee seats in the Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) Assembly.
According to Radio Pakistan, the Chairman of the Human Rights Council for Kashmir, Dr. Syed Nazir Gilani, emphasized that the twelve refugee seats are crucial as they represent Kashmiris globally. He asserted that the Legislative Assembly of Azad Kashmir would be incomplete without these seats.
Dr. Gilani further explained that the issue is not just about the twelve seats but also concerns the voting rights of 2.5 million Kashmiris. He firmly stated that no one has the authority to abolish the rights of Kashmiris living worldwide.
He also mentioned that, following the advisory opinion of the Azad Jammu and Kashmir Supreme Court, there is no justification for the banned Action Committee to continue its protests. Dr. Gilani highlighted that contempt of court proceedings could be initiated against the committee.
