Islamabad: Pakistan’s partnership with the People’s Republic of China has played a critical role in shaping the 20th Century and is playing an equally important role in shaping the contours of the 21st Century. This was stated by Syed Hasan Javed, High Commission of Pakistan to Singapore while speaking at the ISAS Seminar – Ambassador Series, says a press release received here today from Singapore.
The High Commissioner reiterated that Pakistan-China relations cover a wide canvas of growing cooperation in strategic, security, defence, economic, science and technology, culture, education, civil society fields.
The Institute of South Asian Studies (ISAS) is an autonomous research institute within the National University of Singapore (NUS). It is dedicated to the study of contemporary South Asia. It generates knowledge and insights about South Asia and disseminates them in a manner that is useful to policy-makers, the business community, academia and civil society.
He further said that the trade between the two countries has hovered around US$10 billion. China has constructed US$20 billion projects in Pakistan, while US$14 billion are in pipeline. Chinese companies have decided to invest US$15 billion over the next five years in Pakistan’s energy, infrastructure, telecom, mineral exploration and banking sectors.
The two countries have signed 300 Agreements, Contracts and Memoranda of Understandings on close cooperation during the last ten years (2001 – 2011). ‘China has not only given Pakistan the milk, but also the cow. Syed Hasan Javed was introduced by Dr. Iftikhar Ahmed Chowdhury, Senior Research Fellow of ISAS.
