Islamabad: Pakistan has officially called for the immediate and full implementation of the International Court of Justice’s (ICJ) Advisory Opinion on the Occupied Palestinian Territories. This stance was articulated by Foreign Office Spokesperson Mumtaz Zahra Baloch, emphasizing the decision as crucial for ending Israeli occupation and achieving a sovereign State of Palestine.
According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Spokesperson Baloch stated that the ICJ’s ruling is vital for realizing the Palestinians’ inalienable right to self-determination and for establishing a viable, secure, and contiguous Palestinian state, based on pre-1967 borders with Al-Quds Al-Sharif as its capital. The ICJ’s opinion reportedly confirms that Israel’s actions in the occupied territories violate its obligations under international law, particularly the right to self-determination of the Palestinian people.
The spokesperson highlighted that Israel must end its unlawful occupation, halt illegal settlement activities, and compensate for the damages caused. Pakistan’s active role in the ICJ proceedings included a written submission in July 2023 and participation in the oral public hearings in February 2024. Throughout these engagements, Pakistan reaffirmed its strong support for the Palestinian cause and underscored the illegality of the Israeli occupation.
