Islamabad, In a recent statement at the UN headquarters in New York, Pakistan has underscored the vital role and authority of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in global peace and security efforts. Counsellor Naeem Sabir Khan from the Pakistan Mission to the UN emphasized the necessity for the UNGA to assert its pivotal position in addressing international challenges.
According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, during the first thematic debate on the “Role and Authority of the General Assembly,” Counsellor Khan articulated Pakistan’s perspective on reinforcing the UNGA’s influence in global affairs. He highlighted the assembly’s importance in tackling pressing issues like climate change, development, finance, terrorism, and disarmament and called for the reaffirmation of its role through the formation of relevant subsidiary bodies.
Moreover, Khan proposed the creation of a mechanism dedicated to monitoring the implementation of UNGA resolutions, aiming to ensure their effective execution and to enhance the Assembly’s impact on international policy and governance.
