Pakistan and China Deepen CPEC Cooperation, Focus on Priority Sectors

Islamabad, In a significant advancement of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), Planning Minister Ahsan Iqbal reaffirmed Pakistan’s dedication to enhancing CPEC development in key areas including Information Technology, agriculture modernization, textiles, minerals, and renewable energy during discussions with Chinese Vice Foreign Minister Mr. Sun Weidong in Beijing.

According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, the meeting also reviewed the achievements of CPEC over the past decade and discussed the corridor’s future, particularly focusing on the themes of growth, livelihood, openness, inclusivity, and innovation. Key infrastructure projects such as the ML-I railway, the Karakoram Highway realignment, and others were prioritized for early implementation.

Both nations agreed to boost visa facilitation to strengthen business cooperation and people-to-people links. Furthermore, Minister Iqbal engaged with top executives from major Chinese financial institutions, including the President of the China Export and Credit Insurance Corporation, Mr. Sheng Hetai, discussing the acceleration of hydropower projects like Azad Pattan and Kohala.

The talks also covered support from the China Development Bank for development initiatives in Pakistan across various sectors. The Bank’s President, Mr. Tan Jiong, assured continued assistance to Pakistan’s socio-economic development efforts. Minister Iqbal extended an invitation to Mr. Jiong to visit Pakistan and witness firsthand the progress of key CPEC projects.
