Islamabad: Pakistan and Iran have exchanged 12 agreements and Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) to enhance bilateral cooperation across multiple sectors. The exchange ceremony took place in Islamabad on Sunday, attended by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Iranian President Dr. Masoud Pezeshkian.
According to Radio Pakistan, the agreements and MoUs cover various areas of cooperation, including plant protection and quarantine, joint use of the Mirjaveh-Taftan border gate, and collaboration in science, technology, and innovation. Additional agreements focus on information and communications technology, cultural exchange programs, and initiatives in art, tourism, youth, mass media, and exports.
The countries also agreed on cooperation in meteorology, climatology, and related hazards. Other MoUs addressed maritime safety and firefighting, judicial assistance in criminal matters, and a supplemental MoU to a 2013 air services agreement. Further cooperation was agreed upon for the recognition of product certification, inspection, and testing, as well as tourism cooperation for the years 2025-27. A joint ministerial statement was also signed, expressing intent to finalize a Free Trade Agreement.
