Islamabad: In a significant move to bolster bilateral relations, Pakistan and Malaysia have committed to enhancing cooperation across various sectors including trade, investment, defense, and education. The discussions took place in Islamabad today, where both nations expressed their determination to explore new avenues for collaboration.
According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, the joint news conference featured remarks from Prime Ministers Shehbaz Sharif of Pakistan and Anwar Ibrahim of Malaysia. Prime Minister Sharif highlighted discussions on expanding trade in Halal meat and basmati rice, expecting to reach $200 million per annum in Halal meat exports alone. He also noted the educational exchanges, with thousands of Pakistani students currently receiving high-quality education in Malaysia, and expressed hope for reciprocal engagement from Malaysian students.
The conference also addressed strategic and defense cooperation, with plans to open a Malaysian trade office in Karachi next month to facilitate these initiatives. The leaders also discussed the importance of skilled labor, particularly in sectors such as information technology, digital platforms, and artificial intelligence. Additionally, both leaders reaffirmed their commitment to supporting international resolutions on pressing geopolitical issues including Palestine and Kashmir.
