Pakistan Calls for UN Action to Enforce Ceasefire in Gaza

New York, Pakistan has reiterated its call for the United Nations and the international community to enforce measures ensuring Israel’s compliance with a ceasefire in Gaza. This demand was articulated by Pakistan’s Deputy Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Usman Jadoon, during a ministerial-level debate at the UN Security Council focused on the situation in the Middle East, including the Palestinian Question.

According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Ambassador Jadoon criticized Israel for continuing to disregard a UN Security Council resolution that demanded an immediate ceasefire and for obstructing the delivery of humanitarian aid, which he claimed is leading to famine conditions in Gaza. He also noted that Israel has not adhered to interim injunctions from the International Court of Justice.

Ambassador Jadoon condemned the ongoing violence in Gaza, highlighting the tragic loss of over 34,000 Palestinian lives, mostly children and women, and criticized Israel’s continued defiance of international ceasefire calls. He reaffirmed Pakistan’s steadfast support for Palestine’s right to self-determination, stating that UN membership for Palestine is essential for addressing historical injustices and creating a conducive environment for meaningful peace negotiations. He also reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to a two-state solution based on the 1967 borders, with Al-Quds as the capital of a future Palestinian state.
