Pakistan fully supports Palestinians demand for an independent state with Al Quds as its capital

Islamabad: Pakistan fully supports Palestinians’ demand for an independent state with Al Quds as its capital. Palestinian Authority’s progress in establishing State institutions is an auspicious augury for peace, says a press release received here today from Tehran today.

This was announced by the Senate Chairman Farooq H. Naek while addressing the 5th International Conference on Palestinian Intifada here this morning.

Highlighting Pakistan’s stance on the issue, the Senate Chairman said that it has a historical perspective deeply rooted in the proactive role played by former Prime Minister Late Zulfikar Ali Bhutto in highlighting the Palestinian issue in its true sense at the international fora. He holds the distinction and honour of being perhaps the first leader in the Muslim world who brought this important issue into the limelight when he hosted the second OIC Conference in Lahore in February 1947.

He said, successive governments in Pakistan continued an all out support to the Palestinian cause. In particular, former Prime Minister and daughter of Z.A. Bhutto, late Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto carried forward the sacred legacy of her father to this end by effectively highlighting the just struggle, rights and independence of the people of Palestine at different world forum and also during her tenure as the Prime Minister.

Naek added that after her tragic assassination in 2008, her spouse and President of Pakistan Mr. Asif Ali Zardari is diligently pursuing the cause with the same zeal and enthusiasm, making support to Palestinian brethren a corner stone of Pakistan’s foreign policy.

The Senate Chairman said that President Zardari’s vision was also well reflected by Pakistan’s Foreign Minister at the UN General Assembly recently, reiterating Pakistan’s principled stance of upholding the realization of the inalienable rights of the Palestinian people, including their right for a separate homeland, and support to President Mahmood Abas’s plea seeking UN membership for Palestine.

He said “We can never accept the usurpation of additional Palestinian land. Israel has no right to erect its separation wall beyond its 1967 boundaries. It must remove the wall from all occupied Palestinian lands. Moreover, the wanton bloodshed and atrocities being perpetuated against innocent Palestinians must stop.

The Senate Chairman said “I urge the leaders of entire Muslim Ummah as well the people to join hands and build synergies in support for our Palestinian brethren and for their early deliverance from fear, atrocity and persecution. I also urge the Palestinian factions to mend walls and find convergence by forging unity among their ranks in the larger interest of greater Palestinian cause.

The International Conference on Palestinian Intifada was attended by over 50 parliamentary delegations and political figures, elites and intellectuals and many state officials from Muslim and non-Muslim countries.
