Karachi, June 20, 2012 (PPI-OT): The Special Assistant to Chief Minister Sindh on Information Ms. Sharmila Faqoorui said that Pakistan has great potential to achieve a much higher economic growth dramatically on a sustained basis. For this purpose innovative ideas are needed and global assistance in areas of trans-regional connectivity and infrastructure development which will open up Pakistan to neighbouring and regional countries like Central Asia, China and countries in the region, on one hand, and with Turkey and the Middle Eastern region, on the other. She was talking at a Discussion Forum organized by Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA) here at Karachi.
The theme of the discussion forum was “Performing to Potential: Pakistan as a Nation”. Sharmila Farooqui said geo-strategic location of Pakistan offers great opportunities for enhanced regional economic cooperation, regional connectivity through transport, energy and telecommunications.
The panel included Asad Umar from Pakistan Tahreek-e-Insaaf, Mr. Qaiser Ahmed Sheikh of Qaiser group of Companies, and Mr. Rohantha Athukoral from Sri Lanka, who shared his experience on the role of private sector in the national resilience and the benefits of conflict resolution and peace dividends.
