Lahore, November 20, 2013 (PPI-OT): Pak-Iran Gas Pipeline Project is the lifeline for energy sector of Pakistan and has vital significance in view of fast increasing energy consumption in the country. Government should complete this project on priority basis at any cost.
In a statement issued here Wednesday, Acting Chairman PIAF Khamis Saeed Butt said that government must not take any pressure on this important project of national importance as it would help overcome the energy shortage that has halted the economic activities.
He said nation has reposed trust in Nawaz Sharif by giving him heavy mandate in the general elections therefore, he should give preference to the national interests at every cost and take all decisions while keeping in view the ground realities.
The PIAF Acting Chairman said that due to gas shortage, the industrial process has come to a grinding halt while because of low productions the industrial growth is also fast shrinking.
He said that low job creation phenomenon has taken hostage the entire society which resultantly is giving birth to a number of social issues therefore early completion of this project of national importance.
Khamis Saeed Butt said that despite being a frontline ally of the United States in its war against terrorism and suffering a huge monetary and colossal loss, drone attacks have become order of the day.
PIAF Acting Chairman said that in the present scenario, when government was posing to suspend gas to the industry for three months, Pak-Iran Gas Pipeline Project is a ray of hope.
He said that while keeping in view the rising demand of energy, new energy projects should also be focused by the government. Earlier, the President presented one month performance report of the LCCI. It was also decided on the occasion that PIAF and Lahore Chamber would work together for promotion of the business activities.
