Istanbul: Pakistan and the International Maritime Organization (IMO) have reached an agreement to enhance collaboration in ship recycling, maritime governance, the blue economy, and environmental protection. This agreement was formalized during a meeting between Pakistan’s Minister for Maritime Affairs, Muhammad Junaid Anwar Chaudhry, and IMO Secretary-General Arsenio Dominguez in Istanbul.
According to Radio Pakistan, Minister Chaudhry underscored Pakistan’s ongoing efforts to preserve coastal ecosystems, notably through large-scale mangrove plantation projects and other sustainable initiatives. In response, Arsenio Dominguez lauded Pakistan’s progress in maritime reforms and acknowledged its initiatives to advance ship recycling, strengthen maritime governance, and harness the potential of the blue economy.
The IMO secretary-general also expressed his interest in visiting Pakistan to further deepen cooperation and assess ongoing maritime initiatives. Both parties reaffirmed their commitment to fostering a safer, more sustainable, and competitive maritime sector while expanding opportunities within the blue economy.
