Islamabad: Pakistan Navy has officially transferred command of Combined Task Force 150 to the Royal New Zealand Navy, marking the end of a significant period of leadership. Commodore Asim Sohail Malik of the Pakistan Navy handed over the reins to Commodore Rodger Ward of the Royal New Zealand Navy in a ceremony held at Naval Support Activity in Bahrain, attended by Vice Admiral George Wikoff, Commander of Combined Maritime Forces.
According to a statement by Pakistan Navy, during its tenure from July 2024 to January 2025, CTF 150 carried out multiple maritime security operations. The Pakistan Navy, in collaboration with the Pakistan Maritime Security Agency, intercepted three narcotics-laden dhows independently. These operations resulted in the seizure of approximately 10 tonnes of narcotics, valued at over $50 million. The leadership also enhanced regional cooperation, involving naval forces from Kenya and Oman in CTF 150 activities.
Commodore Asim Sohail Malik engaged with leaders from Mauritius, Kenya, and Sri Lanka to advance CMF’s goals. His discussions focused on collaboration, information sharing, and addressing maritime security challenges collectively.
Reflecting on his command, Commodore Malik emphasized the experiences gained and reiterated Pakistan Navy’s dedication to global maritime security, consistent with Pakistan’s foreign policy and the vision of Admiral Naveed Ashraf, Chief of the Naval Staff of Pakistan. He expressed pride in the Navy’s role within the CMF framework.
Incoming Commander, Commodore Rodger Ward, acknowledged the Pakistan Navy’s leadership and accomplishments, setting a precedent for future operations.
CTF 150 is part of the Combined Maritime Forces, the largest naval coalition globally, comprising five task forces.
