Pakistan Seeks Swedish, EU Green Fund Assistance for EV Conversion

Islamabad: Minister for Power Awais Ahmed Khan Leghari has invited the Sweden Green Fund to assist in the conversion of Pakistan’s small vehicles to electric technology by providing technical and financial aid. The proposal was presented during a meeting with Swedish Ambassador Alexandra Berg Von Linde, who met with the minister in Islamabad.

According to Radio Pakistan, the minister elaborated on the proposal, focusing particularly on the conversion of existing fossil fuel vehicles such as motorcycles. He noted that there are currently over 30 million motorcycles in Pakistan and emphasized that individuals in this income group have a strong track record of repaying loans. He suggested that the Swedish and EU Green Fund consider offering interest-free loans through Pakistani banks, which have a robust lending system in place.

The minister reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to promoting renewable energy and mentioned that the Power Division is developing policies to provide affordable and sustainable electricity to consumers. The meeting also saw the Swedish Ambassador highlighting the interest of Swedish companies in securing a reliable green energy supply in Pakistan. She emphasized Sweden’s readiness to share expertise and technological support to aid Pakistan in achieving its renewable energy goals.
