Geneva: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has announced that Pakistan will host the historic US-Iran peace agreement ceremony in Geneva on Friday. Speaking in the National Assembly, he revealed that the peace deal between the United States and Iran has been reached, with both sides declaring the immediate and permanent termination of military operations on all fronts, including in Lebanon.
According to Radio Pakistan, the Prime Minister expressed satisfaction at the emergence of peace following prolonged conflict. He emphasized that this agreement is not only between two countries but represents a triumph of peace and diplomacy. He acknowledged the efforts of US President Donald Trump and the Iranian leadership for their wisdom and patience, which were crucial during the challenging negotiation period.
The Prime Minister also recognized the constructive roles played by Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Turkiye, China, and other countries in advancing peace efforts. He expressed that Pakistan’s earnest attempts to extinguish the flames of war have been fruitful, earning the country unprecedented respect and recognition internationally.
Acknowledging the pivotal role of the military, the Prime Minister paid tribute to Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Forces, Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, for his extraordinary contributions and steadfast pursuit of peace. Despite challenges in the negotiation process, the Chief of Defence Forces remained committed to achieving this landmark.
Discussing the impact of the US-Iran conflict on the global economy, including Pakistan’s, the Prime Minister highlighted the government’s timely measures to shield the public from inflationary pressures. He commended the resilience and patience shown by the nation during difficult times.
Concluding his remarks, the Prime Minister assured that efforts would be made to ensure the economic benefits of the peace agreement reach the people of Pakistan.
