Pakistani Female Peacekeeper Honored for Gender Equality Advocacy in Cyprus

Nicosia: Major Sania Safdar of the Pakistan Army has been awarded the 2023 ‘Certificate of Recognition’ for her efforts in promoting gender equality, marking her as the first UN peacekeeper in Cyprus to receive this honor.

According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Major Safdar is currently serving as the Mission’s Force Signal Officer with the United Nations Force in Cyprus (UNFICYP). Her advocacy and contributions to gender equality within the peacekeeping mission have been recognized by the U.N. Department for Peace Operations, based in New York.

The award was presented to Major Safdar by Colin Stewart, the Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General in Cyprus. In her response to the recognition, Major Safdar expressed that receiving this certificate is not only deeply meaningful to her personally but also represents a significant acknowledgment for the Pakistan Army’s mission in Cyprus.
