Pakistan’s UN Ambassador Hails China’s Role in Global Development Initiative

New York, Ambassador Munir Akram, Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, praised China’s Global Development Initiative (GDI) as crucial for achieving Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This statement was made during a high-level meeting of the Group of Friends of the GDI at the United Nations.

According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Ambassador Akram lauded China for its success in lifting over 700 million people out of poverty and its continued efforts to assist other developing countries in their own poverty reduction and development goals. He described the GDI, initiated by Chinese President Xi Jinping, as a model of proactive international cooperation.

Akram emphasized that China’s establishment of institutions for project funding and consultative mechanisms under the GDI framework is vital for global efforts towards the SDGs. The ambassador’s remarks underscore the importance of institutionalized cooperation in addressing and achieving international development targets.
