London, In a significant policy shift, Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi has mandated a rapid acceleration in passport processing times for overseas Pakistanis. This directive comes in response to widespread concerns about delays affecting citizens residing globally. Under the new policy, urgent passports will now be issued within seven days, and normal passports within 30 days.
According to High Commission For Pakistan – United Kingdom, Minister Naqvi, during his visit to passport and NADRA centers in London, emphasized the necessity of prompt service, deeming any delays in passport issuance unacceptable. The current process typically takes up to four months for normal passports and about one-and-a-half months for urgent ones. The new policy applies to all Pakistani missions worldwide, aiming to drastically reduce these times.
To enforce this directive, Naqvi has established a monitoring cell to oversee compliance and address any grievances. Overseas Pakistanis who experience delays beyond the stipulated timeframe can now lodge complaints directly with this cell. The minister also highlighted the need for effective staff management to mitigate any staff shortages that might impede the timely issuance of passports.
During his visits, Naqvi met with the staff of both the passport and NADRA centers and Pakistan’s High Commissioner, Dr. Mohammad Faisal. He commended the efforts of the NADRA team and encouraged continued efficiency in serving the diaspora. Furthermore, his discussions at the High Commission in London focused on prioritizing the resolution of issues faced by overseas Pakistanis.
