Islamabad, Raja Pervaiz Ashraf, the Central Punjab President of Pakistan People’s Party (PPP), has vocally criticized Indian Defence Minister Raj Nath Singh’s recent statement acknowledging cross-border assassination of Pakistani citizens. Ashraf’s condemnation comes amid rising tensions between India and Pakistan, highlighting concerns over the impact of such admissions on regional stability.
According to Kashmir Media Service, Ashraf, in a statement, accused India of basing its election campaigns on animosity towards Pakistan. He argued that the remarks made by the Indian Defence Minister could escalate tensions in the area. The PPP leader urged the Pakistani government to bring the issue to the International Court of Justice, citing the Indian minister’s confession as a matter of serious concern.
Ashraf, who has served as Pakistan’s prime minister, also commented on the internal political dynamics of India, suggesting that the Modi-led BJP government fears defeat in the upcoming general elections. He confidently stated that Pakistan’s armed forces are capable of responding decisively to any Indian aggression, referencing the capabilities demonstrated during the capture of Indian pilot Abhinandan Varthaman in 2019.
Further emphasizing the need for diplomatic action, Ashraf recommended that Pakistan’s foreign ministry should actively present the case of the Indian Defence Minister’s confession at the United Nations, to ensure international awareness and intervention.
