Islamabad: Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif has called on religious scholars, community leaders, and citizens to actively promote brotherhood amid rising concerns about extremism and divisive rhetoric, which he described as threats to social peace and harmony. His message coincides with the start of World Interfaith Harmony Week.

According to a statement by Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, the Prime Minister emphasized that this annual observance serves as a crucial reminder of the need for dialogue, understanding, and cooperation among different religious communities. World Interfaith Harmony Week, celebrated every year during the first week of February, was conceived to promote a culture of peace and nonviolence and has been observed globally since 2010.

Shehbaz Sharif underscored Pakistan’s commitment to its foundational vision, articulated by Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah, as a sanctuary for all faiths. He reaffirmed the government’s dedication to upholding the constitutional rights of all citizens, ensuring their belief, dignity, and equality are protected.

The Prime Minister also reiterated the government’s commitment to fostering an environment characterized by acceptance, tolerance, and mutual respect among its diverse citizenry.
