Police Clash with Protesters in Baramulla, Multiple Injuries Reported

Srinagar: Tensions flared in the Pattan area of Baramulla district in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir, resulting in multiple injuries as police intervened in a protest over water scarcity.

According to Kashmir Media Service announcement issued on 19 July 2024, the protest, involving hundreds of residents from Chenabal in the Mirgund area, initially began peacefully. The demonstrators blocked the Srinagar-Baramulla highway, demanding an urgent resolution to the lack of water supply in their community.

The situation deteriorated when Indian police attempted to clear the highway using batons and tear gas, prompting some protesters to retaliate by throwing stones. This confrontation led to several injuries among the protesters and caused substantial damage to vehicles in the vicinity.

Amidst the chaos, a vehicle carrying BJP leaders Sajid Yousuf Shah and Sahil Bashir Bhat, along with their personal security officers, was attacked by stone-pelting protesters, resulting in injuries to the security personnel.
