PPI Original Text (PPI-OT) – Rs. 15.5 billion for education in coming fiscal year: Pir Mazhar Ul Haq

Karachi, May 24, 2012 (PPI-OT): Senior Minister for Education and Literacy Pir Mazhar ul Haq has said that budget for Education has been doubled from 7 billion to 15.5 billion rupees in next fiscal year. The purpose of this increase is to spread education in the nook and corner of the province. This he said as chief guest while laying stone for 11 storeyed Sindh Educational Complex Building here at Clifton today.

This complex will be built at a cost of more than 188 million rupees and will be completed till June 2015. He said that in this Education Complex all offices of Sindh Education Department including Sindh Text Book Board, Sindh Education Foundation and other offices as well. The construction of this complex would provide one window operation for all educational activities.

He added ‘International Standards and Transparency will be maintained in the construction of this building. We are working on the vision of Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto. Governments come and go but we are interested to strengthen the institutions for the welfare of the people. Minister Education said that Malaysia and Srilanka were small countries but they spent 23 % of their GDP on education which was a guiding line for us and we are to learn from the world a lot.

He told that 22 schools of Lyari Expressway Project were closed due to non availability of funds. Now these schools had been handed over to Sindh Education Department and studies would start in those schools in June.

The children would be given books free of cost, stipends and other facilities. Pir Mazhar ul Haq said, ‘For the promotion of education we need peace and for the promotion of education we are establishing education city and education complex.

This complex would have all modern facilities. On this occasion Secretary Education Siddiq Memon said that present government was taking much interest in education sector. Education sector was the largest sector of the province.

Director General Human Resources and Director General Monitoring and Inspection had also been set up to improve the efficiency of the Department. Chairman Matric Board Anwar Ahmed Zai said that the construction of the Sindh Education Complex was a historic moment and it was a great achievement of the government to work on such projects.

On this occasion he proposed to establish a library for the researchers in the complex. Chairman Sindh Text Book Board Abdul Salam Khawaja, MPA and Chairman Standing Committee on Education Najamuddin Abro, Kazi Asad Abid and Niaz Leghari also spoke on the occasion.
