Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif Prioritizes Power Sector Reforms to Lower Electricity Costs

Islamabad: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has announced a concentrated effort on reforming the power sector, with the aim of reducing electricity prices across the country. This declaration was made while addressing the newly appointed chairmen and members of the boards of electricity distribution companies in Islamabad.

According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, the Prime Minister described the recent appointments as the initial step in a broader strategy to overhaul the power sector. Key focus areas include eradicating electricity theft, reducing line losses, and enhancing the transmission system to ensure more efficient power delivery.

Sharif also emphasized the importance of modernizing governance within these distribution companies (DISCOs), prioritizing the digitization of their operations. He further outlined future plans for the outsourcing and privatization of these entities as part of the next phase of reforms.
