Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif Stresses Crucial FBR Reforms for Tax System Overhaul

Lahore: In a dedicated effort to enhance Pakistan’s tax infrastructure, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has emphasized the critical need for reforms within the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR), highlighting these changes as essential to improving the country’s tax system.

According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, during a review meeting on the FBR’s Track and Trace System held in Lahore, Prime Minister Sharif expressed his commitment to safeguarding public funds and enhancing the efficiency of tax collection. He stated that the digitization of the FBR is a top priority for his government and made it clear that any disruptions to this process would not be tolerated.

The Prime Minister directed immediate actions against individuals found responsible for errors or misconduct related to the track and trace system, underscoring the importance of accountability in the reform process. He has also set ambitious goals for his economic team to expedite the FBR’s transformation, insisting on complete digitization and restructuring to meet contemporary needs.

Further, Shehbaz Sharif has appointed the Minister of State for Finance to oversee the monitoring of the FBR transformation project, ensuring direct accountability and effective management of the reforms.

The meeting also included a presentation on the progress of the FBR’s digitization and a detailed report on the current status of the track and trace system. The Prime Minister concluded by ordering the enforcement of stringent measures to address and rectify any negligence in the implementation of the FBR’s new systems, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to a transparent and efficient tax system.
