Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif Unveils Rs 50 Billion Electricity Subsidy for Consumers

Islamabad: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif today announced a substantial Rs 50 billion relief package for domestic electricity consumers using up to 200 units per month. The package, disclosed at an energy sector reforms ceremony, aims to alleviate the financial burden on the populace during the peak usage months of July, August, and September.

According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, the relief initiative is set to benefit 25 million households, accounting for 94 percent of total domestic electricity consumers. The Prime Minister detailed that under the subsidy, the cost per unit of electricity will range between four and seven rupees. This subsidy also extends to consumers of K-Electric.

Prime Minister Sharif explained that the funds for this subsidy would be drawn from the development fund, emphasizing the government’s commitment to supporting citizens amidst rising electricity prices. He highlighted the significance of easing the burden during the challenging summer months, projecting a decrease in electricity usage as the weather cools from October.
