Protests against killing of youth continue in Srinagar

Srinagar, November 09, 2014 (PPI-OT): In occupied Kashmir, protests against the recent killing of two youth by Indian Army at Chattargam in Badgam continued in Nowgam locality of Srinagar.

Groups of angry protesters took to the streets and blocked the main road connecting Srinagar with Bypass at several places between Naikbagh and Nowgam Chowk, forcing suspension of the public and private transport.

Two local youth were killed and as many injured when Army troops opened fire on them while they were traveling in a car at Chattargam in Badgam district on Monday.

The shopkeepers pulled down the shutters and a large group of people took to the streets and started protesting against the killings, demanding stern action against the troops involved in the killing. The protestors complained that police beat the locals for visiting the victim families.

They said that police last evening thrashed four local youth without any provocation.

“Police not only beat the people but attacked the houses of victim families with tear-smoke shells and stones,” one of the protesters said while raising anti-police slogans.The police also arrested five local youth.

The protesters including the members of victim families also staged a sit-in sat on the highway and demanded the release of the arrested youth.Police assisted by paramilitary forces rushed to the area and attacked the protesters, resulting in clashes between the protesters and the police.4 Indian troops hurt in attack, 2 killed by avalanche in IOK.

Srinagar, November 09 (KMS): In occupied Kashmir, four Indian troops were injured when they were fired upon at Levdora in Qazigund area of Kulgam district, yesterday.

DIG South Kashmir, Alok Kumar, confirmed to the media that four personnel of 163 CRPF battalion came under attack while patrolling in the area.

The injured personnel have been identified as Tejandar Singh, Mehandar Singh, Mohammad Arif and Aajay Dawgand. The injured were later shifted to a hospital in Srinagar.

Indian army and police’s Special Operation Group (SOG) have launched searches in the area to nab the attackers.

On the other hand, two Army personnel and a civilian potter died, while one trooper sustained injuries when they got trapped under an avalanche near the Line of Control (LoC) in Kupwara district, Army said.

Meanwhile, high reaches of Kashmir Valley received moderate to heavy snowfall over the past couple of days.
