Lahore, On the direct orders of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, Punjab Police have escalated their efforts in the ongoing Drug-Free Punjab campaign. Led by Inspector General Dr. Usman Anwar, the force carried out a sweeping operation against narcotics across the province, culminating in 289 raids in a single day, leading to 141 arrests and the filing of 135 cases.
According to Punjab Police, these intensive efforts on a particular day netted significant quantities of illicit substances, including 50 kilograms of charas, 1 kilogram of heroin, half a kilogram of ice (crystal meth), and 1,563 liters of liquor. Since the campaign’s inception on February 26, the police have conducted 33,572 raids, arresting over 16,000 individuals and initiating 15,693 cases. The total seizures have comprised 9,366 kilograms of charas, 162 kilograms of heroin, 269 kilograms of opium, over 45 kilograms of ice, and more than 1,677,000 liters of liquor.
IG Punjab Dr. Usman Anwar has ordered an increase in the intensity of the operations, focusing particularly on drug infiltration in educational institutions and targeting online drug trafficking networks. He has also emphasized the critical need for stringent action against those involved in inter-provincial smuggling of narcotics.
