Lahore, Punjab Police implemented extensive security measures for Christian prayer programs held in churches across the province on Sunday, ensuring a safe environment for worshipers.
According to Punjab Police, the security operation included personal inspections by Superintendents of Police (SPs) and other supervisory officers at various churches and key Christian sites throughout the province, including Lahore. The force was on high alert, with additional personnel and snipers positioned at sensitive locations to prevent any untoward incidents.
This heightened security response follows directives from IG Punjab Dr. Usman Anwar, who had earlier instructed Regional Police Officers (RPOs) and District Police Officers (DPOs) to intensify security protocols around churches. Dr. Anwar mandated that specialized units such as the Dolphin Squad, PRU, and Elite teams conduct effective patrolling in the vicinity of churches. He also emphasized the importance of remaining vigilant and monitoring for any suspicious activities, continuing search and sweep operations around churches, Christian communities, and other sensitive areas.
Further emphasizing the commitment to community safety, Dr. Anwar highlighted the role of religious scholars and members of the Christian community in promoting interfaith harmony. He also noted the establishment of “Meesaq Centers” by Punjab Police, aimed at resolving issues faced by the Christian community and other minorities by providing them with dedicated policing services.
