Punjab Police Enhances Vehicle and Facial Recognition Technology in Lahore

Lahore, A pivotal meeting at the Central Police Office in Lahore, chaired by Inspector General Police Punjab Dr. Usman Anwar, convened to discuss advancements in vehicle registration and facial recognition technologies being developed in collaboration with the Punjab Information Technology Board and Safe City Authority.

According to Punjab Police, the meeting included prominent figures such as Additional IG Special Branch Zulfiqar Hameed, MD Punjab Safe Cities Authority Ahsan Younas, and Chairman Punjab Information Technology Board Faisal Yousaf. The focus was on the testing and refinement of automatic registration number plate recognition and facial recognition software. The discussions covered the effectiveness of these technologies in identifying stolen vehicles and enhancing event management systems.

MD Ahsan Younas emphasized that the new software will significantly aid in the recovery of stolen motorcycles and vehicles through its automatic identification capabilities. Chairman PITB Faisal Yousaf assured that ongoing efforts are aimed at ensuring the software’s success. IG Punjab Dr. Usman Anwar urged the teams to expedite the finalization of the software and enhance its performance to ensure optimal results. He highlighted that the integration of modern police applications with these advanced systems would facilitate quicker recovery of stolen vehicles and improve crime control and public service delivery.
