Punjab Police Intensifies Crackdown on Electricity Theft Under Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif’s Orders

Lahore: Following directives from Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif, the Punjab Police has intensified its efforts to combat electricity theft across the province. This robust enforcement campaign aims to apprehend individuals involved in activities that harm the national treasury.

According to Punjab Police, Inspector General Punjab Dr. Usman Anwar reported significant progress in this ongoing crackdown. Over the current year, Punjab Police has registered 59,000 cases against individuals accused of electricity theft, including specific actions in Lahore where 17,555 cases were noted. The campaign has resulted in the arrest of 31,227 suspects and the completion of legal proceedings, or challans, for 36,119 cases. Furthermore, 4,744 individuals have been convicted for their roles in damaging the national economy.

IG Punjab Dr. Usman Anwar has reiterated the need for continued and unbiased actions against these crimes, advocating for a zero-tolerance approach. He emphasized that police teams across all districts are actively participating in this special campaign, and he has instructed all supervisory officers to enhance the effectiveness of these efforts under their personal oversight.
