Punjab Police Intensify Crackdown on Drug Trade Under Chief Minister’s Directive


Lahore, In a robust response to directives from Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, Punjab Police have launched a vigorous campaign against drug trafficking across the province. Over the past 51 days, the campaign has resulted in the arrest of 7,770 individuals and the registration of 7,308 cases related to drug dealing.



According to Punjab Police, the operations are being conducted under the supervision of IG Punjab Dr. Usman Anwar, focusing on intelligence-based raids on drug dealers’ hideouts. The spokesperson for the Punjab Police detailed that more than 15,000 raids have been carried out, seizing substantial quantities of narcotics including 5,067 kilograms of charas, over 26 kilograms of Ice, 215 kilograms of opium, 95 kilograms of heroin, and 99,254 liters of alcohol.



In the latest efforts, 311 raids were conducted across various locations including Lahore in the last 24 hours alone, leading to 145 arrests and the registration of 141 new cases. Confiscated in these raids were 96 kilograms of charas, 5 kilograms of heroin, 480 grams of Ice, and 1,578 liters of liquor.



IG Punjab has directed the police force to dismantle the drug supply networks, particularly targeting areas around educational institutions and hostels to safeguard youth from drug exposure. The intensified crackdown reflects the provincial government’s commitment to a drug-free Punjab.
