Lahore: In a rigorous enforcement push, Punjab Police have escalated their crackdown on the use of dangerous metallic kite strings and unauthorized kite flying across the province, under the directive of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif.
According to Punjab Police, the intensified operations have led to substantial results since February 26, with 4,306 cases registered and 4,441 individuals arrested for engaging in the illicit trade and activity of kite flying. The police have also confiscated 247,078 kites and 17,089 spools of metallic string, which pose significant safety risks.
Inspector General of Punjab Police, Dr. Usman Anwar, has ordered Regional Police Officers, City Police Officers, and District Police Officers to sustain the vigorous campaign. This includes targeting the online commerce of kites and metallic strings. Dr. Anwar stressed the importance of strict measures to prevent the endangerment of lives, advocating for no leniency towards those violating the ban, and ensuring that operations are meticulously carried out by circle officers throughout the region.
