Islamabad: The Foreign Ministers of Pakistan, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, and Turkiye have expressed their endorsement of the ‘Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding’ signed between the United States and the Islamic Republic of Iran. This development was highlighted in a joint statement released following the 4th Meeting of the Regional Four (R-4) Foreign Ministers in Cairo, Egypt.
According to Radio Pakistan, the Foreign Ministers view this agreement as a significant step towards reducing tensions and resolving a conflict that has posed substantial risks to regional security, energy markets, international maritime routes, global supply chains, and trade. The Ministers recognized the efforts by regional and international entities that facilitated this understanding and stressed the importance of adhering to the commitments made by the involved parties.
The Foreign Ministers praised the key role of Pakistan in achieving this outcome, alongside Qatar’s support in the successful negotiation of the MoU. They also acknowledged Pakistan’s ongoing coordination with their countries on this issue. Looking forward, the Ministers emphasized the need for a swift and effective conclusion to the next phase of negotiations aiming for a durable and verifiable solution to remaining issues.
The Ministers stressed the significance of considering the concerns of regional countries, particularly regarding the security of the Gulf Arab States and the Levant, to enhance collective security and foster long-term regional stability. They also reaffirmed the importance of the Palestinian cause for achieving peace and stability in the Middle East.
Reiterating their support for Palestinian rights, the Ministers emphasized the need for an independent Palestinian State and highlighted the centrality of this issue for a stable regional order. They focused on the humanitarian and political situation in Gaza, the West Bank, and East Jerusalem.
The Foreign Ministers reiterated their support for the Palestinian people’s rights, including the establishment of a state based on the 1967 lines with East Jerusalem as its capital, in line with UN Security Council Resolutions. Finally, they expressed gratitude to Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi for his vision guiding efforts towards Middle Eastern stability.
