Retired Lieutenant Colonel Sentenced to 14 Years for Sedition in Pakistan

Islamabad: Lieutenant Colonel Akbar Hussain, a retired officer of the Pakistan Army, has been convicted and sentenced to 14 years of rigorous imprisonment by a Field General Court Martial (FGCM). The court found him guilty of inciting sedition among army personnel, leading to his forfeiture of rank on July 26, 2024.

According to Inter Services Public Relations, the conviction under the Pakistan Army Act, 1952, followed a due judicial process, culminating in the sentencing on May 10, 2024. The charges against Hussain included promoting disobedience and disloyalty within the army ranks.

The case echoes earlier convictions of Ex Major Adil Farooq Raja and Ex Captain Haider Raza Mehdi, who were sentenced in October 2023 for similar charges, including violations of the Official Secrets Act, 1923. Both received prison sentences and also faced forfeiture of their military ranks.
