Routine Elections Upheld by Hurriyat Leadership, Asserts Saghar

Islamabad: Mehmood Ahmed Saghar, the former convener of the All Parties Hurriyat Conference Azad Jammu and Kashmir (APHC-AJK) chapter, affirmed that the biennial elections for key positions within the organization are a long-standing and routine practice.

According to Kashmir Media Service, Saghar emphasized in a statement that the process of electing the conglomerate’s convener, secretary, and information secretary every two years is in strict adherence to the Hurriyat’s manifesto, underscoring the democratic values upheld within the organization. He noted that this procedure has been consistently followed for several decades without deviation.

Saghar, who has himself previously held the position of convener, pointed out that after his term ended, he promoted the initiation of fresh elections to choose new leadership, though he declined to run again despite encouragement from colleagues. He addressed concerns about misinformation, stating that distortions were being spread to suit particular agendas and highlighted the importance of combating such propaganda on social media to keep the public properly informed.
