Sartaj Aziz participates in Commonwealth Ministerial Action Group meeting in London

Islamabad, March 15, 2014 (PPI-OT): The 43rd Meeting of the Commonwealth Ministerial Action Group (CMAG) held today at the Commonwealth Secretariat, London, reviewed the political developments in Fiji, suspended from the Commonwealth in 2006 after imposition of military rule, and decided to reduce the level of suspension of the country enabling it to participate in a range of Commonwealth activities including the Commonwealth Games.

The CMAG is a key Ministerial policy forum of the Commonwealth, which deals with serious or persistent violations of the Commonwealth’s fundamental political values. Mr. Sartaj Aziz, Adviser to the Prime Minister on National Security and Foreign Affairs, represented Pakistan at this meeting. Pakistan was elected, for the first time, as a member of the CMAG during the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) held in Colombo, Sri Lanka in November 2013.

The Foreign Ministers from eight other CMAG member countries including Cyprus, Guyana, India, New Zealand, Sierra Leon, Solomon Islands, Sri Lanka and Tanzania also attended this meeting.
