Senate Elections likely from February 10 to March 10: Babar

Islamabad, December 30, 2020 (PPI-OT):Adviser to the Prime Minister on Parliamentary Affairs Dr. Babar Awan says it is topmost priority of the government to conduct the Senate polls in free and fair manner. Talking to a private news channel, he said upcoming Senate elections are expected from February 10 to March 10 next year.

Babar Awan however said it is discretion of the Election Commission of Pakistan to hold the Senate elections before its stipulated time through show of hands to wipe out horse trading practice. He said the government is ready to initiate talks with the opposition parties in the Parliament on all the national issues except the National Reconciliation Ordinance, on corruption and money laundering cases in National Accountability Bureau.

He said it is a constitutional right of any parliamentary member to tender resignation to Speaker National Assembly adding, if so is done the government would conduct bye-polls on the vacant seats. He however said Pakistan Democratic Movement would not resign from the assemblies.
