Senate Expresses Solidarity with Iran, Mourns Loss of President Raisi

Islamabad, The Senate of Pakistan today passed a resolution expressing deep sorrow over the death of Iranian President Dr. Ebrahim Raisi and others in a helicopter crash. The resolution, unanimously adopted, underscores Pakistan’s solidarity with Iran during this time of national mourning and recognizes the significant impact of the tragedy on the Muslim community worldwide.

According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, the resolution, moved by Senator Sherry Rehman, described President Raisi as a notable leader within the Muslim World and a staunch ally of Pakistan. It emphasized that his death, and those accompanying him, represents a profound loss not only to their families and the Iranian nation but to all of the Muslim Ummah. The government of Pakistan also declared a day of national mourning to honor the lives lost.

In other proceedings, the Senate was reassured by the Minister for Power, Sardar Awais Ahmad Khan Leghari, regarding the continuation of current policies on solar energy and net metering, with any future changes to be deliberated in consultation with relevant stakeholders. The session is scheduled to resume tomorrow at 10:30 a.m.
