Sewerage system in Karachi has become quite obsolete and it would need lot of resources to replace it: Administrator

Karachi, January 18, 2016 (PPI-OT): KMC Administrator Sajjad Hussain Abbasi said all civic bodies in Karachi were inter-connected with regard to their works and responsibilities and without cooperating each other they could face difficulties in providing better civic facilities to people. KMC did not consider any civic services providers including KWSB and DMCs other than it. He expressed these views while talking to media representatives after the inauguration of three day chrysanthemum show in Frere Hall on Friday evening.

Administrator Sajjad Abbasi said the drainage of sewerage and maintenance of manholes was not the direct responsibility of KMC however, solving some sewerage problems including cleanliness of drains and some other works were related to it. Though sewerage system was managed by the water and sewerage board, KMC officers and staff have always provided all possible cooperation to them as all these organizations were making joint efforts for the solution of city problems.

He said the sewerage system in Karachi had become quite obsolete and it would need lot of resources to replace it; however the government was reviewing the change of this old system. KMC Administrator said in order to improve the revenue condition in KMC review meetings of revenue departments will be held from Monday. A major portion of KMC income comes from leases and auctions which have stopped since last few months.

Replying to a query Administrator Karachi said he had no any pressure from the nominated mayor nor he received any telephone call from him in this connection. He said KMC is a representative body of the city and the development and maintenance works could not be stopped even for a day. These works will continue till the existence of the present administrator setup.

Administrator Sajjad Hussain Abbasi said KMC throughout the year held seasonal flowers show and other such events for providing healthy recreation to citizens. He also appealed to citizens of Karachi to promote the tree and flowers plantation which would help minimizing the environmental pollution and add to the beauty of the city.
