Karachi, Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah has announced a substantial increase in funds for Union Councils (USCs) and a new initiative to set up sewage treatment plants through public-private partnerships, aimed at enhancing municipal services across Karachi. The announcements came during an interactive meeting with local representatives and party workers as part of the discussions for the Budget 2024-25.
According to Sindh Police, the Chief Minister detailed several initiatives to address the needs of Karachi, particularly in underdeveloped areas. These include increasing the financial allocation to USCs to improve their operational capabilities and setting up a sewage treatment plant costing 135 billion rupees to treat and repurpose wastewater for industrial use.
During the meeting, which included key political figures and local body representatives, Shah outlined his administration’s achievements and future commitments to the city’s infrastructure and public services. He emphasized the government’s focus on water supply, sanitation, and transportation, acknowledging the critical need for improved facilities in light of recent electoral gains which underscore the public’s support for ongoing development efforts.
The discussions also highlighted pressing issues such as drug control, with directives issued to intensify operations against the drug mafia in critical areas like Lyari. The Chief Minister responded to various community needs, promising actions on public demands for better healthcare, education, and public utilities management, reflecting a comprehensive approach to urban governance.
