Sindh Governor Highlights Role of SMEs in National Development at GRASP Grant Ceremony

Karachi: Sindh Governor Kamran Khan Tesori emphasized the critical role of small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in national development during the GRASP matching grant checks distribution ceremony held at the Governor House. The event marked the distribution of grants totaling more than Rs 555 lakh to support local businesses and also saw the launch of a food safety campaign.

According to Sindh Governor House, Governor Tesori praised the dynamic private sector as essential for sustainable development and job creation. The ceremony was attended by notable figures including the Ambassador of Tajikistan Sharifzoda Yusuf Toir, Chief Executive Officer of the Pakistan Poverty Alleviation Fund (PPAF) Nader Gul, and officials from the International Trade Center (ITC) Geneva. The Governor expressed gratitude towards the ITC and the European Union for their roles in the economic development of Pakistan and highlighted the recovery of SMEs as vital post-flood challenges.

The event also featured remarks on the significant impact of the GRASP project in Sindh, describing it as transformative for the region. PPAF CEO Nader Gul lauded SMEs as the backbone of the economy and noted the grants as pivotal for fostering business growth. ITC’s Robert Sidmore and DECI Director Espin Joaquin Oliveira Gomez discussed the potential for increased efficiency and economic recovery through these initiatives.

Ambassador Toir also addressed the gathering, advocating for increased trade and cooperation between Tajikistan and Pakistan to support local industries and improve livelihoods.
