Small and Medium Enterprises Development Authority partners with Subcontracting Partners Exchange project of UNIDO to help local SMEs

Lahore, October 20, 2016 (PPI-OT): The Small and Medium Enterprises Development Authority (SMEDA) has entered into partnership with Subcontracting Partners Exchange (SPX) project of the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) to help local SMEs take advantage of the industrial subcontracting and supply chain opportunities at world level.

SMEDA sources have informed that the SPX, initially started with a few countries have expanded to over 30 developing countries of the world. The SPX is based upon a software having a global data of suppliers-SMEs and the buyers-OEMs (Original Equipment Manufacturers), which remains accessible to all member-countries. SMEDA experts claims that the data sharing through SPX would be highly useful for the local SMEs, who would be able to expand their working connections with big manufacturers both at national and international level. Similarly, the international manufacturing companies seeking assistance from Pakistani SMEs for supply of parts would also be able to develop direct contacts with the local SMEs.

According to SMEDA sources, the SPX comprising 30 member countries is currently operational in 17 developing countries including Turkey, Iran, South Africa, Kenya and India. The Pakistan, despite being a fresh entrant has made the SPX fully operational during first year of its joining.

A senior resource in SMEDA head office has been assigned to look after efficacy of the program, whereas a team of young officers have been provided with a proper training through a British Expert for running the SPX efficiently. Mr. Ahmad Mansoor Chaudhry, Deputy General Manager Outreach Division of SMEDA has told that the SPX would be very helpful in enabling local SMEs to meet the challenges of globalization and take advantage of emerging subcontracting, outsourcing and supply chain opportunities.
