Srinagar: Parts of south Kashmir and the Chenab Valley in Indian-administered Jammu and Kashmir were blanketed by fresh snowfall, disrupting transportation and daily activities in the region.
According to a statement by Kashmir Media Service, the upper reaches of Islamabad district experienced up to 8 inches of snow, while lower areas recorded a couple of inches. In Kokernag, Daksum, Verinag, and Kapran, snowfall accumulation also reached 8 inches.
High-altitude areas, including Sinthan Top and Margan Top on the Kokernag-Kishtwar and Kokernag-Warwan-Marwa roads, reported over 10 inches of snow. Moderate snowfall was recorded in DH Pora, DK Marg, and Aharbal in Kulgam district, whereas Kulgam town saw a light dusting.
Shopian and Pulwama districts experienced light snowfall, with higher regions such as Sedow, Dobijan, Hirpora, and some parts of Pulwama gathering a few inches. Peer Ki Gali on the Mughal Road also witnessed snowfall.
The Chenab Valley, comprising Banihal, Bhaderwah, Warwan, and Marwa, was not spared from the snowfall. The Srinagar-Jammu Highway, notably the Qazigund-Banihal segment, became slippery, significantly slowing down traffic.
Roads in Kokernag and those leading to district headquarters were rendered slippery, complicating travel for residents. The fresh snowfall also caused train services on the Banihal-Budgam rail section to be suspended, adding to the region’s transportation woes.
