Prime Minister Urges Swift Resolution of FBR Tax Revenue Cases

Islamabad: Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif has mandated swift action to resolve tax revenue cases currently under trial, directing the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) to expedite legal proceedings.

According to a statement by Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, during a review meeting in Islamabad, the Prime Minister emphasized the need to engage reputable lawyers to represent the FBR in these cases. He also called for forensic audits of cases related to tax matters to ensure thorough examination.

The Prime Minister expressed a commitment to accountability, stating that officers found to have initiated cases on weak or false premises would face disciplinary action. Conversely, officers who have demonstrated integrity and diligence in forming cases will be rewarded with special incentives.

The meeting highlighted progress made following the Prime Minister’s directives, noting that from July to December 2024, 586 cases were resolved in the High Court and 637 pending cases were concluded in the Supreme Court. Presently, 33,522 cases involving 4.7 trillion rupees remain pending across various courts and tribunals nationwide.

Additionally, a litigation management dashboard for higher courts has been developed by the FBR, and a tax tribunals management system is nearing completion at the Ministry of Law and Justice.
