South Asia Association for Regional Cooperation Chamber of Commerce and Industry organising seminar on Energy Cooperation in South Asia

New Delhi, November 22, 2012 (PPI-OT): The SAARC Chamber of Commerce and Industry is organizing seminar on “Energy Cooperation in South Asia: Commitments and New Dimensions” on November 24, 2012 in New Delhi with collaboration of the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry(FICCI) which will be inaugurated by Mr. P Uma Shankar, Secretary, Ministry of Power, Government of India.

The seminar will be also addressed by Energy experts and business leaders from across South Asia who will deliberate upon the prevailing and emerging trends in production and consumption patterns of Energy in view of the climate change. SCCI report on Energy titled” Energy Policy in South Asia: The way Forward to promote Regional Trade” will also be launched at the seminar, being organized in partnership with the Friedrich Naumann Foundation: fur die freiheit, Regional Office, New Delhi.

Mr. Vikramjit Singh Sahney, President SCCI who will deliver the keynote address said that the seminar aimed at providing gap-analysis in respect of harnessing untapped renewable energy potential, presenting SWOT analysis of existing conventional energy resources and suggesting ways and means for barrier free flow of secured energy trade and investments, thereby ensuring greater regional cooperation.

Prominent business leaders from across South Asia including Mr. Tariq Sayeed, former President, SCCI (Pakistan), Mr. Ahmed Mujuthaba, former Transport Minister of Maldives and Snr. Vice President of SCCI, Mr. Kosala Wikaramanayake, VP-SCCI (Sri Lanka), Mr. Gyanendra Lal Pradhan, Energy Expert and Chairman water, energy and climate change Council of SCCI (Nepal) Dr A Didar Singh, Secretary General, FICCI will address the conference along with energy experts from Afghanistan, Bangladesh, India, Nepal and Pakistan.

The seminar will be moderated by Mr. Iqbal Tabish, Secretary General, SAARC CCI Led by Mr. Tariq Sayeed, a six member delegation from Pakistan including Mr. Iqbal Tabish, Secretary General, SAARC CCI, Mr. Zulfiqar Ali Butt, Deputy Secretary General, SAARC CCI Mr and Mrs. Hameed Akhtar Chadda, Former Vice President, FPCCI, Mr. Muhammad Imtiaz Ahmed, Mr. Kunwer Muhammad Javed, Senior Research Associate SDPI, Mr and Mrs. Shahzada Alam, EC Member, SAARC CCI, Sheikh Imtiaz Ahmed and Muhammad Imran will leave today the 23rd November to attend the seminar while more than 20 members have already left for India.
