South Korean Envoy Envisions Mega Projects with Pakistan on CPEC Model

Islamabad: South Korean Ambassador Park Ki Jun has proposed that Pakistan and South Korea could embark on substantial joint projects similar to those under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), spanning various sectors including energy and infrastructure.

According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, in a detailed interview with Radio Pakistan’s News and Current Affairs Channel, Ambassador Park emphasized the transformative impact of CPEC and suggested that a similar collaborative model could enhance South Korean-Pakistani ties in multiple areas. He noted the potential benefits of leveraging Pakistan’s skilled workforce and addressed the country’s liquidity challenges, expressing optimism about Korean IT companies starting operations in Pakistan to capitalize on its youthful demographic.

Park further highlighted the underutilized trade potential between the two nations, citing last year’s trade volume of 1.2 billion dollars as below expected levels. He advocated for increased bilateral trade and cooperative efforts in technology and economic development to mutually benefit both countries. The Ambassador also acknowledged Pakistan’s rich natural resources and vibrant human capital as complementary to Korea’s technological and economic advancements.

Additionally, Park discussed the cultural connections between the countries, expressing South Korea’s appreciation for Pakistan’s historical and cultural heritage, particularly the Gandhara civilization. He announced plans for a Korea-Pakistan Gala in Islamabad this October, aimed at fostering stronger people-to-people ties and featuring government officials and artists from both nations.
