Islamabad: Speakers at a recent event voiced serious concerns over the ongoing atrocities committed by New Delhi in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK).
According to a statement by Kashmir Media Service, the event was organized by Friends of Kashmir International in X-space following Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to the region. The speakers highlighted that these injustices, ongoing for over seven decades, are intended to suppress the legitimate aspirations of Kashmiris for freedom and self-determination.
The discussion shed light on the forced imposition of India’s Hindutva policies in IIOJK, including demographic changes aimed at altering the Muslim-majority status of the territory. Measures forcing Muslims to act against their religious beliefs were condemned as a systematic assault on Kashmiri identity and culture. The speakers stressed the need to counter Indian propaganda, which presents Kashmir as peaceful despite significant human rights abuses.
Activist Naila Altaf Kiyani emphasized that Kashmiris reject Indian rule, stating, “Kashmiris do not want to live under Indian rule even if New Delhi paves roads of gold there.”
Dr. Mubeen Shah, Director of Kashmir House Turkey, called for introspection and a reassessment of strategies, highlighting the importance of responding effectively to Indian atrocities.
Ghazala Habib, Chairperson of Friends of Kashmir International, emphasized the need for greater global representation to advance the Kashmir cause. Senior Hurriyat leader Altaf Hussain Wani praised Pakistan’s support and urged unity in the struggle.
Journalist Azaz Syed discussed economic aspects, suggesting that a stronger economy could enhance the global impact of the Kashmir movement. Hurriyat leader Abdul Hameed Lone condemned India’s brutalities and demonization of Kashmiris for advocating their right to self-determination.
Turkish activist and songwriter Turgey Evran highlighted creative avenues to raise global awareness about the Kashmir cause, sharing details of his work, including songs inspired by the resilience of Kashmiris.
The event concluded with Sadia Sattar emphasizing unity, determination, and evolving strategies to effectively advocate for Kashmiris’ just cause.
