Speakers Urge Global Action for Kashmiris at Stockholm Event

Stockholm: An event to mark Kashmir Solidarity Day was held in Sweden, aiming to express solidarity with the people of Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK).

According to a statement by Kashmir Media Service, the event was organized by Kashmir Council Sweden, under the leadership of Sardar Tamur Aziz. Speakers at the gathering emphasized the importance of promoting Kashmiris’ right to self-determination and called for an end to human rights abuses in the disputed region. The event sought to amplify Kashmiri voices in international forums, with Kashmir Council Sweden urging Swedish authorities to advocate for a peaceful resolution to the Kashmir conflict.

A notable moment during the event was a speech by 10-year-old Swedish-born Kashmiri, Maryam Tamur. She expressed solidarity with her Kashmiri peers, stating, “I want to tell my Kashmiri brothers, sisters, and particularly youth that they are not alone, we are with them. We will become their eyes and ears here in Sweden.”

Bilal Hayee, the Pakistani Ambassador to Sweden and Finland, thanked the Pakistani and Kashmiri community for their dedication to the cause of IIOJK’s oppressed people. He criticized the draconian laws in IIOJK, particularly the Domicile Law, for attempting to alter Kashmir’s demographics. Hayee underscored that Kashmiris remain steadfast in their pursuit of self-determination as promised by the United Nations.

Dr. Ghulam Nabi Fai, Chairman of the World Forum for Peace and Justice, addressed the event via video-link, describing India’s actions in IIOJK as violations of basic human rights. He warned that evictions and demolitions in Kashmir could amount to war crimes under international law.

The event featured video messages from Barrister Sultan Mahmood Chaudhry, President of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK), and Sardar Masood Khan, former President of AJK. A documentary on the plight of Kashmiris and a photo exhibition showcasing atrocities by the Indian army in IIOJK were also part of the program, both receiving significant attention from attendees.
