Karachi, February 03, 2014 (PPI-OT): The Former Chairman and Spokesman of the All Pakistan Fruit and Vegetable Exporters, Importers and Merchant Association (PFVA) while talking on Monday (Feb.03, 2014) disclosed that the export of Kinnow is on full swing to the global markets and as of now 4000 containers worth of approx. USD $88.90/- million have been exported, while possibility of export of Potato to Russia during current week has also been brightened.
Mr. Wahid further added that the export volume of Kinnow to Russia has now been restricted to 30% compared to last year and the exporters are facing huge financial losses despite availability of good quality of Moroccan’s Kinnow the Russian market has been flooded (over supply) with Pakistani Kinnow over supply and resulting in consequently due to low price offered by this market. On other hand ban on import by Iran has further mutilated problems of the exporters.
Sharing good news he stated that due to an increased demand of Pakistani potato in Gulf, Sri-Lanka, Far-East the export of potato has now reached to 65,000 tons and of the total production of 50 million ton , an additional of 3 million ton is expected to be exported.
Chance of withdrawal of ban by Russian Quarantine on import of Pakistani Potato is quite fair and it`s strongly anticipated that the export of potato to Russia would commence in the current week, he further added.
The price of potato in local market is thrice of last year since it`s being exported via land to Russia through Afghanistan, Iran and Iraq and if price of potato is reduced locally, then 50,000 tons is expected to be exported to Russia, he further stated. Despite law price of potato from India and Bangladesh, we are still striving hard to achieve export target of potato this year, Mr. Wahid expressed in determined voice!
